What Ottawa Brides Wish They Knew Before Booking Their Photo Booth
Real mistakes Ottawa brides have made when booking wedding photo booths — and what they wish they’d known before signing the contract.
Most brides only book one photo booth in their lifetime.
Which means most brides make first-timer mistakes.
We’ve worked hundreds of Ottawa weddings. Here’s what couples tell us after the fact — what they wish they’d known before booking their wedding photo booth.
1. “I Wish I’d Booked More Hours”
The most common feedback. Couples book 3 hours thinking that’s plenty. By hour two, the line is wrapped around the room. By the time the booth shuts down, half the guests didn’t get a turn.
The fix: If you have more than 80 guests, book at least 4 hours. More than 150 guests, book 5+.
2. “I Wish I’d Asked About the Attendant”
Some companies drop off the booth and leave. You don’t realize it until your DJ is troubleshooting the touchscreen at 9pm.
The fix: Confirm in writing that a trained attendant will be on-site the entire time. Ask if they handle setup, restyling, and teardown.
3. “I Wish I’d Customized the Output”
Brides come back and say “I wish our prints had our names and date.” It’s a small thing, but it’s the difference between a generic photo strip and a wedding keepsake guests actually frame.
The fix: Make sure your booth offers branded print and digital templates. Send your wedding logo or monogram in advance.
4. “I Wish I’d Picked a Better Location for the Booth”
Booth in the lobby? Nobody finds it. Booth in a closed-off corner? Empty all night. Booth right next to the speakers? Photos full of people covering their ears.
The fix: Walk the venue with your booth vendor. Pick a high-traffic spot near (but not on top of) the dance floor.
5. “I Wish I’d Asked About Print Quality”
Not all printers are equal. Some booths produce washed-out, low-quality prints that fade in a week. Yours should produce prints that look like a real photo.
The fix: Ask to see physical samples. Look at the colour, the saturation, the paper quality.
6. “I Wish I’d Added a Take-Home Keepsake”
A digital file is forgotten in a week. A photo keychain sits on your guest’s keyring forever.
The fix: If favours are in your budget, replace the sugared almonds with branded keychains, magnets, or trading cards.
7. “I Wish I’d Booked Earlier”
Brides who waited until 4 months out for a Saturday wedding in June, September, or October usually couldn’t get their first choice.
The fix: Book 9-12 months out for peak season weddings. 6 months minimum.
8. “I Wish I’d Asked About Backup Equipment”
Cameras fail. Printers jam. Touchscreens freeze. The good vendors bring backups. The cheap ones do not.
The fix: Ask “what happens if the equipment fails?” The answer should be specific, not vague.
9. “I Wish I’d Asked About Travel and Setup Time”
Some vendors charge extra for travel to Kanata, Orleans, or out-of-town venues. Some need 3 hours of setup that eats into your timeline.
The fix: Get the full breakdown in writing. Travel fees, setup window, teardown timing.
10. “I Wish I’d Trusted My Vendor”
The best results come from brides who tell their vendor what they want emotionally — and let the vendor figure out how to deliver it.
The fix: Pick a vendor you trust. Then let them do their job.
